Tech Pro Ireland 268 - Alex Hoare
Event overview
Whether you work in technical support, systems administration or IT management, you may run IT for one company or many. It doesn't matter... a disaster incident is the incident you hope never happens. It's better to see it here first.
Attendees will leave with a clear picture of...
How modern incidents develop
Where the evidence lives in M365 and on Endpoints
Why backups alone don't guarantee recovery
And the practical steps that make the difference between a bad day and a
business-ending one
Come join Stackand.Co at their monthly Tech Pro Ireland event on the evening of Tuesday 24th November with special guest Alex Hoare.

18:15 Doors Open (don't be late!)
19:00 Anatomy of a Disaster Incident
It rarely starts with alarms. It starts with a user who can't open a file, a supplier querying an invoice that was never sent, or an email rule nobody remembers creating. By the time anyone realises it's a disaster, the attacker has often been inside for days!
In this session, Alex Hoare takes apart real incidents from the front line of Irish IT support, including ransomware that took down line-of-business systems, Microsoft 365 phishing and business email compromise, password-spray attacks and quietly compromised accounts.
He walks through each stage as it actually unfolds: the early warning signs that were missed, the first critical hours, containment decisions made under pressure, evidence gathering, recovery, and the conversations with clients, insurers and regulators that follow.

About Alex
Alex Hoare has spent more than 36 years in the IT and telecommunications sector, beginning with three years in the radio telecommunications sector, followed by nine years as a member of An Garda Síochána in the Telecommunications and Operational Support Section. Today he runs Alex Hoare IT Consultants Ltd, a Dublin-based managed services provider supporting Irish and international businesses across Microsoft 365, network infrastructure, endpoint security and backup and recovery.
Much of Alex’s recent work has been at the sharp end of security incidents: business email compromise, password-spray attacks, compromised accounts and ransomware recovery. He has also provided expert technical opinion in Irish High Court proceedings. In *Anatomy of a Disaster Incident*, he draws on real cases to show how incidents actually unfold, from the first missed warning sign through containment, recovery and lessons learned.
Away from work he is obsessed with building out his Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and getting out off roading.
